caribbean house

Conceptual design for a passively-cooled house in the Caribbean. The cantilevered mass is inspired from the colonial architecture found in the area, especially the Portuguese influence as seen in the plantation shutters. Multi-layered louvers cover the entire second floor volume raised over a horizontal brick base. The design explores issues of Caribbean identity through architecture by investigating the history of the houses in the region and the politics of contemporary representation of domesticity (2012).
