Preliminary conceptual studies for small tropical villas on an island off of Busuanga, Palawan, Philippines. Envisioned to be an artist’s utopia, the island development aims to be an off-grid and sustainable luxury resort featuring indigenous materials, passive-cooling technologies, alternative energy sources. Forms derived from rock outcrop shapes of shards and fragments found on the island. Large overhangs, large fenestrations, sun-shading devices, pilotis structure, and wrap-around balconies respond to the tropical setting of the house. One side of the house faces a view of the South China Sea (2009).
